Guardiola says 1 player is playing his 'best' football since Man City move after Chelsea victory

Pep Guardiola was full of praise for John Stones, who put in a Man of the Match performance as Man City beat Chelsea 1-0.

Stones was imperious on the night in every sense, with Jamie Carragher going as far as to say that he kept City ‘in the game.’

One of the first signings of the Guardiola era at Man City put in one of the tackles of the season, as he stopped Chelsea wideman Christian Pulisic in his tracks in the 1st half.

Throughout the clash, John Stones defended excellently, with both his aerial dominance and ground tackles being nothing short of magnificent.

On the ball as well, Stones, who previewed the contest by saying Stamford Bridge is ‘never an easy place to go’ made things look extremely easy in posession.

Despite being put into a number of pressure situations by hosts Chelsea, the England international seemed nerveless.

Passing the ball out of tight spaces with aplomb and ensuring that Man City transition forward, John Stones put in one of the most complete individual displays you are likely to witness all season.

Much like any and everyone watching, Guardiola was in awe of the 28-year-old as well.

Speaking to Sky Sports (via Football Daily) after the game, Pep Guardiola was extremely complimentary of John Stones for his superb outing for Man City in their latest victory against Chelsea.

“He played an extraordinary World Cup. He held the build up perfectly. He is playing the best level since we arrived together at Manchester City. When he is stable in his head and his mood his good, he is excellent.”

In our view: Stones has a shout for being the most in-form defender in the world

While that statement may seem outrageous to many, how many centre-backs in the world can put in as well-rounded a performance as John Stones did for Man City against Chelsea?

This season, Stones has adapted incredibly as both a traditional centre-half, a right-sided defender in a back 3 in possession and even at right-back at times.

For years on end at this point, the Englishman has been operating at the highest level and deserves to be in the conversation amongst the very best, especially with how brilliant he has been this campaign.
