Peter Crouch says Manchester City have a player who’s so good it’s bonkers

Manchester City have set their sights on securing a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

Becoming the first side to win four league trophies in a row last season, City have had a strong start to their latest campaign.

Prior to their away match against Newcastle United, Pep Guardiola’s side have won four and drawn one of their first five league matches of the season.

Across those games, the Blues have scored more goals (13) than any other side in the division but have only been able to keep one clean sheet.

At this fairly early stage of the season, a pundit and former top-flight star has highlighted one particular City player he’s been impressed by so far in this campaign.

Peter Crouch astounded by Erling Haaland

On the subject of Erling Haaland’s goal in City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, Crouch had this to say about the striker in a recent edition of That Peter Crouch Podcast.

He said: “City are flying, let’s be honest, and Haaland is, it’s quite ridiculous what he’s achieving.

“The run, like when he runs through, like that goal, the run was amazing, but then he just checks, he knows he’s going offside.

“But to know that, to check and then still stay ahead of Gabriel and [William] Saliba, who are very quick, just shows how actually rapid he is.”

What else has been said about Haaland this season?

In his third Premier League campaign as a City player, Haaland has bagged 10 goals across their first five matches, scoring at least one in each of them.

His strike against Arsenal that Crouch spoke about was the Norwegian’s 100th for the Manchester club, doing it in 105 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.

Crouch isn’t the only former Premier League striker to share his astonishment at what the 24-year-old has been doing this season, as Darren Bent recently claimed that Haaland’s goalscoring prowess is “not normal.”

While City have lost the likes of Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Oscar Bobb and Nathan Ake to injuries, if they can avoid seeing Haaland do the same and keep him fit and firing throughout the remainder of the season, he’ll give his side a great chance of winning another title.
