The Manchester club have been heavily linked with a transfer move for the 21-year-old in recent weeks and have been in talks with Leipzig to negotiate a deal for him.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, Gvardiol is “awaiting the all-clear to travel for a medical” having agreed personal terms with City last month.

Having joined Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb back in the 2021 summer transfer window, the Croatian has gone on to make 87 appearances for the German club across all competitions, scoring five goals and supplying three assists along the way.

Described as a “phenomenal” player by City midfielder Mateo Kovacic, the defender ended his latest Bundesliga campaign with the highest passing accuracy percentage (89.1%) out of players that attempted more than two passes throughout the season.

Earlier this month, Leipzig’s sporting director, Max Eberl, revealed that Gvardiol and his representatives that he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.

This further highlights how eager the youngster is to join the European champions, despite still having just under four years left on his contract at Leipzig.

Moving forward, even though the German club are asking for a significant fee of €100m (£86m) for their star defender, if this is a deal that City can get over the line, it could be a very exciting one and give the squad a player that has the chance to be a long-term figure at the Etihad Stadium.
