Josko Gvardiol is reportedly frustrated that RB Leipzig have not been willing to accept Man City’s efforts to sign him this summer.
The Manchester club have been trying to land a deal for the centre-back over the past few weeks having agreed personal terms with him last month.
With reports earlier in the week suggesting that a deal had been agreed between the two sides, which have now been debunked by Leipzig’s director, Max Eberl, who recently said that a deal is not currently close to being made, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the player’s current state of mind.
Gvardiol frustrated by Leipzig’s stance on City transfer move
According to a recent report from 90 Min, “conversations between the two clubs are ongoing and Leipzig’s refusal to accept City’s current proposal is understood to have left Gvardiol and his representatives feeling frustrated.”
After making 52 senior appearances for Dinamo Zagreb, the 21-year-old joined Leipzig back in the 2021 summer transfer window.
Since then, the Croatian, who has been described as a “phenomenal” player by Mateo Kovacic, has featured in 87 games across all competitions for the German side, chipping in with five goals and three assists.
Taking into account his age, the fact that he still has just under four years left on his current contract and his importance to the team having played in 30 Bundesliga games last season, it’s understandable why they’ve set such a hefty asking price of €100m (£86m) for him.
Having previously told the club that he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s side this summer, it’s understandable why he may be starting to get frustrated that a deal hasn’t been completed yet.
However, we feel that it’s not his place to be frustrated with his current club in terms of what they want to do financially.
While he may be keen to join City, it’s down to them to come up with a deal that Leipzig are willing to accept, until then, the best thing he can do is be professional and focus on his fitness ahead of the new season.
