Manchester City released a video yesterday on their YouTube channel which showed the players, including Phil Foden and Rico Lewis, watching the 2018 Carabao Cup final win against Arsenal – and a few players were mesmerised watching David Silva.

Pep Guardiola‘s side are back in Premier League action tonight against Brentford, and there is a chance to get to within two points of Liverpool, after they lost to Arsenal on Sunday.

City are four wins out of four so far in 2024, and tonight is a great opportunity to close the gap.

The players have been in high spirits this week, after the win over Burnley.

The day after that game, the players were in the first-team building for a recovery session – and it was interesting to see that the players were watching City’s 3-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in 2018…

These videos that the club put out are always really interesting in terms of getting a look at what the players get up to in the week.

It was fascinating to see in the latest episode of ‘Inside City’ that the players were watching the Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal at Wembley in 2018.

That result and performance remains one of the very best we have ever seen from City under Pep Guardiola. The scorers that day were Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

The players were on their exercise bikes as they watched back the game, and there is a moment where the camera is behind Phil Foden and Rico Lewis as David Silva scores his goal.

Silva’s goal was the third of the game which killed Arsenal’s hopes of a comeback, and it was a clever finish from the Spaniard, who poked the ball across goalkeeper David Ospina and into the far corner.

Foden could be heard saying at 11:53 ‘he makes it look so… he hit it with his toes!’, while Lewis just shook his head as if in disbelief.

A very interesting clip

It’s interesting to see that City players watch back old performances of the team under Pep Guardiola.

That performance from City in the final against Arsenal was one of the very best of Pep’s tenure, and it is the kind of level this current crop should be aspiring to achieve every game.

It just goes to show how seriously City take things.

It’s all about instilling that winning mentality, and that desire to be the absolute best.

David Silva was certainly one of the best and hopefully, Phil Foden in particular can reach somewhere near his level someday – everyone knows the Spaniard was one of his heroes, and he will no doubt have learned a huge amount from playing with him.
