Phil Foden became the 20th player to score 100 goals for Manchester City this week.

The midfielder scored City’s second equaliser to make it 3-3 in extra-time of their FIFA Club World Cup clash against Al-Hilal, but it was not enough to see the Premier League club through, as the Saudi outfit went on to win the match 4-3.

Nevertheless, this is an incredible achievement for Foden, with the England international becoming just the second player in Man City’s current squad to reach the landmark, with Erling Haaland being the other.

Rayan Cherki was impressed with Foden’s ability to strike a ball during their time in America, and the French star would have been one of many who were left stunned by a goal the City star scored in 2021.

Phil Foden’s Liverpool goal in 2021 was huge for his career

Foden made history this summer by becoming the first English player to score in multiple FIFA Club World Cups, which is the type of record the 25-year-old would have set out to try and achieve once he made his Man City debut in 2017.

The midfielder took a while to establish himself at the Etihad Stadium as Guardiola was keen to develop the player with caution; however, Foden’s goal against Liverpool during the 2020/21 campaign helped the City academy graduate capture the football world’s attention.

Having lost the Premier League title to Liverpool the year prior, Man City travelled to Anfield on 7 February 2021 looking to make a statement, and they achieved this, leaving Merseyside with all three points after an emphatic 4-1 victory.

Foden added the fourth on the day and did so in style, as the midfielder controlled the ball perfectly before driving into the Liverpool box and hitting a rocket past Alisson in the Reds’ goal.

The reputation of the English talent took off after the strike, mainly as a result of the praise Gary Neville heaped on the midfielder in the aftermath.

Neville has been a fan of Foden ever since that day, and his adoration was justified during the 2023/24 season, a campaign which saw the Man City star crowned the best player in England.

The Liverpool goal was a very important one for the career of Foden; however, that strike is not the player’s personal favourite.

Phil Foden’s favourite Man City goal

Foden was recently asked by the Premier League to pick his favourite goal that he has scored for Man City in the English top flight, and the 25-year-old went with his strike against West Ham on the final day of the 2023/24 season that helped the Manchester club beat Arsenal to the title.

The midfielder stated that the goal was the “best feeling” he has ever had on a football pitch, which should not come as a surprise, given the beauty of the strike.

The occasion only added to the incredible nature of the goal, where Foden took the perfect touch to move the ball into his path before hitting a rocket into the West Ham net.

The Etihad Stadium was left in awe by the goal, and fans of the Manchester club hope to see that version of Foden again over the coming months.
