It has been reported that Sheffield United are interested in signing Cole Palmer on loan from Manchester City next season.

This comes from journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon, as the 21-year-old’s immediate future at the Etihad Stadium remains unclear.

After it was claimed on Wednesday that Manchester City are targeting Jeremy Doku and Michael Olise as replacements for Riyad Mahrez, perhaps Sheffield United would consider themselves as likely contenders to land Cole Palmer on loan.

Branded as ‘very intelligent’ by Ashley Cole via the Daily Mail, the youngster is tailor-made to replace Riyad Mahrez after his move to Al-Ahli.

However, the Wythenshawe-born wideman has been linked with exits, both permanently and on loan this summer.

Now, it has been reported that apart from James McAtee, Sheffield United are also keen on signing Cole Palmer on loan.

Whether the move transpires or not remains a question mark, with Juanma Lillo, who has returned to the club reported to have a close relationship with the Englishman.

The treble-winners should keep Cole Palmer at their disposal

Unless a suitor in question is one that have play a similar style of football to Manchester City and would lead to Cole Palmer reaching the next level of his progress, it would be futile to send him out on loan.

Instead, Pep Guardiola’s side should utilise the highly-rated winger as an understudy to their mainstay in the role, whether that be a new signing or any one of either Phil Foden or Bernardo Silva.

In the limited appearances that he has made for his boyhood club, Palmer has looked the part, especially at right-wing.

Considering the U-21 Euros winner is the only natural winger at the club as well, parting ways with him, even on a temporary basis would not be beneficial.
