Manchester City are set to see a new face take on a big role at the club behind the scenes in the summer.
During the October international break, it was reported that Txiki Begiristain will leave City in the summer after 13 years as their sporting director.
It was then reported that Sporting CP’s director of football, Hugo Viana, had agreed to replace Begiristain at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
Now that the November international break has arrived, a player who has faced off against City recently and will be familiar with Viana has delivered the sort of performance for his country that shows why he should be on the Manchester club’s transfer wishlist.

Morten Hjulmand shines in latest Denmark match
Back in October, Denmark manager Brian Riemer said Morten Hjulmand is good enough to join City or another top Premier League side in the future.
The Sporting CP midfielder has now shown in his latest performance for Denmark why his international manager thinks so highly of him.
Even though Denmark lost 2-1 to Spain on Friday night in their latest Nations League match, the midfielder delivered a top individual performance.
Specifically, on the ball, the 25-year-old accurately completed 52 of the 56 passes he attempted as well as making two key passes for his side.
Then in terms of his defensive work, Hjulmand made three tackles, two interceptions, one clearance and won six of the seven duels he was involved in.
This display ultimately earned the midfielder a solid overall match rating of 7.5/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated Denmark player on the day.
Hugo Viana could get off to a dream start at City by signing Hjulmand
During his time at the Portuguese club, Hjulmand has appeared in 65 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and delivering five assists in the process.
Earlier this month, Hjlumand praised Rodri for winning the Ballon d’Or, saying this about the City star and his big accolade.
He said: “When I watch Manchester City or Spain, I see a top player and I think he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or, and I think he is a big inspiration for all the midfielders in the world. When they look at him, they want to learn from him.”
With Viana joining City having spent seven years as Sporting’s director of football – during which he helped sign Hjulmand from Lecce in 2023 – he could potentially use this experience to help the Manchester club land a potential deal for the midfielder if they end up wanting to add him to their squad.
