Manchester City have cashed in on many players during previous transfer windows.
Throughout Pep Guardiola’s tenure in charge of the Citizens, the Manchester club have sold a significant number of big-name players.
For example, the Blues have seen the likes of Cole Palmer, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, among others, wave goodbye to the Etihad Stadium to join new clubs.
Now, though, one player who only left City last year has now asked the club he joined during the previous summer transfer window to leave.
Aymeric Laporte has asked to leave Al Nassr just one year after Man City exit
In a recent post shared on his official X account, journalist Rudy Galetti had this to say on the matter.
He said: “Aymeric #Laporte asked #AlNassr to be let go during this transfer session. The [Saudi Arabian] club is open to evaluating his departure, but only for consistent offers. As told, some proposals have arrived, but none considered adequate so far.”
Laporte is still a top defender
During his time at City, the defender made 180 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and winning numerous trophies along the way including six Premier League titles.
Last summer, Laporte joined Al Nassr in a deal worth £23.6m (via BBC Sport) and has since gone on to appear in 39 games with the Saudi club.
In the recent 2024 European Championship, the former City defender appeared in six of Spain’s seven games, racking up more clearances (27) than any other player in the squad.
In fact, Phil Thompson shared how surprised he was by the centre-back’s impressive performances in the tournament despite not playing in Europe for the past year.
Having proved himself to still be a top defender, we feel that the 30-year-old has what it takes to be a vital player for any of Europe’s top clubs.
Moving forward, if Laporte does end up leaving his current side this summer, we feel he’d be a clever signing for any top club in Europe.
