Manchester City are set to be busy in the transfer market this summer.
Pep Guardiola needs Hugo Viana – Director of Football at the Etihad Stadium – to replace Kevin De Bruyne, which is no easy task, while the midfield also needs freshening up as Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva start to wane.
One player Manchester City are keen to sign in that area is Bruno Guimaraes – although the Newcastle No.39 has now given a clear indication of what his future holds.
Bruno Guimaraes suggests he wants to stay at Newcastle
Writing in his programme notes ahead of the Premier League clash between Newcastle and Everton, the Brazil international stated: “Sometimes, when I put my head on the pillow at night, I think about all of the magical moments we’ve already enjoyed together…but I want to make even more dreams come true at this club – and I’m convinced this season will be just the beginning.”
It comes after Graeme Bailey exclusively told Manchester City News that the Citizens are ready to spend £100m to sign Guimaraes this summer, with any failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League unlikely to have a negative impact on the transfer budget.
What Pep Guardiola has previously said about Bruno Guimaraes
Guardiola has already hailed Guimaraes publicly in the media, so it would not be a surprise to see Manchester City sign the Brazilian.
The Spaniard said: “He is an exceptional holding midfielder. He is aggressive, with the ball or without the ball. At set-pieces, he’s aggressive and is a real, complete holding midfielder since being at Lyon and now at a club who want to grow up and up.”
Guimaraes has actually praised Guardiola for his kind words, saying: “I’ve spoken with him but nothing about a potential move. He has said some nice things about my game, and I am very humbled by that because he is the best coach I’ve ever seen. I admire how he has impacted football.”
Despite this mutual respect, it sounds like the South American will be staying on Tyneside for a bit longer, based on his programme notes.
