Sergio Conceicao has claimed that Pep Guardiola made personal remarks about him when Porto faced Manchester City.
In October 2020, the Porto boss hit out at Guardiola after City’s 3-1 win against the Portuguese giants in the Champions League as he felt he “pressures referees” and described his behaviour as “extremely unpleasant” [via The Independent].
However, the Manchester City boss had responded to the Portuguese manager’s claims by stating that he had not pressured the officials and has never done so, either at Bayern Munich and Barcelona [via Daily Mail].
Sergio Conceicao mentions Pep Guardiola amidst Mikel Arteta’s admission about when Porto faced Manchester City
After Porto were knocked out by Arsenal in the Champions League, Sergio Conceicao claimed Pep Guardiola and his behaviour once again after speaking out about Mikel Arteta’s antics.
“That’s not important. What [Mikel] Arteta says or doesn’t say, during the game, he turned to the bench in Spanish, I don’t know if it’s with Spanish coaches, because with [Pep] Guardiola, it was the same thing”, he told O Jogo on Tuesday night.
“He [Mikel Arteta] insulted my family and in the end, I told him, ‘Be careful’, because whoever he insulted is no longer with us.”
In the 2020/2021 season, City beat Porto 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, courtesy of goals from Sergio Aguero, Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres after Luis Diaz opened the scoring for them.
Both sides face each other in the group stage of the Champions League as the reverse fixture in Portugal ended in a 0-0 draw.
One will wait and watch whether Pep Guardiola is quizzed about the claims made by Sergio Conceicao about his remarks.
Considering Guardiola finds his Manchester City side in a heated title race as well as in contention to win the Champions League and the FA Cup, one assumes he would not wish to be embroiled in such drama.
But at the same time, the Spaniard would wish to address such claims.
