Former Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling was reportedly on the receiving end of a dressing room telling off from Chelsea owner Todd Boehly last season.

After spending seven years at the Manchester club, the winger joined Chelsea during the 2022 summer transfer window in a deal worth over £47m.

Now in the middle of his second season at Stamford Bridge, some details have emerged regarding one particular incident that took place behind the scenes between Sterling and Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.

According to a recent report from The Telegraph, Sterling was one of the first Chelsea players to be called out in the dressing room by Boehly after seeing his side lose at home to Brighton last season.

The report also adds that “other than labelling the team’s plight “embarrassing” in front of the entire squad, Boehly gave Sterling a personal pep-talk that amounted to telling the former Manchester City star that he is a world-class player and could have been delivering more, in terms of performance and leadership.”

During his time at City, the Englishman scored 131 goals and provided 95 assists in 339 appearances across all competitions, winning four Premier League titles along the way.

Since making his move to Chelsea, the 29-year-old has found the net 16 times and supplied 12 assists in 68 games prior to tonight’s match against his old side at the Etihad Stadium.

Given the top-flight experience he has and the fact that he is currently one of the most decorated players in the current Chelsea squad, we feel that it was a brave move for Boehly to pick out Sterling on that particular occasion.

However, in a way it makes sense for Boehly to try and make an example out of the former City winger in a possible effort to get him to become the one that leads by example and everyone looks up to.
