Manchester City are currently looking to sell one of their “world-class” players with three Premier League clubs and Fenerbahce all in talks.

Manchester City have been busy strengthening their ranks this summer to avoid a repeat of last season.

The Citizens have now moved to bring in a new goalkeeper, with James Trafford set to return to the Etihad Stadium after his fruitful stint at Burnley.

Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on Stefan Ortega, who is set to leave the Etihad Stadium in the wake of Trafford’s imminent move.

Premier League trio and Fenerbahce pushing to sign Stefan Ortega

Plettenberg took to X to report that three Premier League clubs are currently pushing for Ortega, while Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are also in the picture.

Burnley and Leicester have been linked with Ortega, but Plettenberg claimed that a move to Turf Moor has “fallen through for now”.

Plettenberg also said Ederson, whose future at City appeared uncertain up until a few days ago, is now set to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola presented with Stefan Ortega dilemma

Ortega is a wonderful goalkeeper who Pep Guardiola deemed “world-class” and “exceptional” after his efforts against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2024.

“Ortega is a world-class goalkeeper,” Guardiola told BBC Sport after Ortega’s display effectively rubber-stamped City’s fourth title in a row.

“An exceptional, exceptional goalkeeper. Ederson did not have concussion, he had a problem with his eye. He could not see properly so the doctor said I should change.”

The dilemma Guardiola has to contend with now is that Ortega could move to another Premier League club, which means City would go up against him next season.

All too often we hear stories of players returning to haunt their former club with superb displays when up against them.

Fenerbahce would probably be a less risky option for City, but there’s a chance they could meet in the Champions League this season.

Mourinho’s charges are set to face Feyenoord in the third qualifying round next month.

Should Fenerbahce sign Ortega and go through to the group stage, City could potentially go up against him then.
