Raheem Sterling has claimed that if he could take one player he has ever played with to a five-a-side tournament, it would be Phil Foden.
Sterling shared a dressing room with Foden at Manchester City for six years before his move to Chelsea in the summer of 2022.
Having witnessed the £225,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man’s development over the years, the former Liverpool winger perhaps knows best how skilful he is.
Raheem Sterling says if he could take one player to a five-a-side tournament, it would be Phil Foden
Raheem Sterling was also often in the same team as the Stockport-born attacker when he played in different positions for City and as a result, he understands how effective he can play in multiple roles.
The Chelsea goalscorer has also witnessed Foden’s talent shine through for England, especially at the Qatar World Cup in which he played a key role in their wins against Wales and Senegal.
When asked to pick one player he has ever played with to take to a five-a-side tournament, Raheem Sterling named Phil Foden.

“What? That I’ve ever played with?”
“Probably Philly, Phil. Phil Foden, yeah. Five-o, defo [definitely]”, he said in an interview with STATSports.
Clearly, Sterling realises just how outstanding Foden would be in five-a-side, to the extent that he could even be better than any player he has ever played with.
Shows how skilful Phil Foden is
The 29-year-old has had the privilege of playing with several legends of the game such as Steven Gerrard, Kevin De Bruyne, Wayne Rooney, David Silva, Luis Suarez, Ilkay Gundogan, the list goes on.
However, the fact that Raheem Sterling picked Phil Foden out of all those illustrious names goes to show just how skilful he is.
Ultimately, one would agree that other diminutive midfielders like David Silva and Bernardo Silva would also run rings around players in five-a-side.
However, Raheem Sterling seems to know just how technically gifted and dynamic Phil Foden has always been as a player and as a result, he would wreak havoc in such small-sided games.
Credit goes to Foden for honing his talent to such an extent that he has been picked over various big-hitters by his former Sky Blues teammate.
