‘Problem’: Micah Richards thinks Pep Guardiola will ignore ‘outstanding’ Manchester City player now

Manchester City lost against Newcastle United in midweek, and while that was a disappointing result, one of the positives from the match was the display produced by Oscar Bobb.

Oscar Bobb was in action for Manchester City against Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.

City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, lost 1-0.

Alexander Isak scored the only goal of the match in the second half.

Bobb started for City against Newcastle.

The 20-year-old forward played for the entire 90 minutes.

Instead of playing out on the right, Bobb was given a creative midfield role.

It was Bobb’s first start for City.

And, he was very impressive.

Bobb was very good on the ball, showed some lovely touches, was always looking to create chances, played with a maturity beyond his years, and did not seem out of place at all.

Micah Richards on Manchester City forward Oscar Bobb

Former City star Micah Richards has praised Bobb and has expressed his admiration for the forward.

However, the BBC Sport pundit does not think that City manager Pep Guardiola is going to play Bobb much now that the Citizens are out of the EFL Cup.

Richards said on The Rest of Football podcast: “I thought Kalvin Phillips did really well considering he has not played a lot of football.

“But Oscar Bobb, the forward, the left-footer for Man City, he was outstanding.

“His close-control, weight of pass, everything about his game, he was buzzing, lovely little touches around the corner, but the problem is now you are probably not going to see a lot of these players again.

“The League Cup sort of keeps their season alive a little bit, but now because Manchester City are so consistent in the league, you are probably not going to see any more of these players, which is a shame.”

Oscar Bobb is a future Manchester City star

In our view, Manchester City fans need not worry if Oscar Bobb does not play much in the coming weeks and months.

Bobb is only 20 and is still developing and growing as a footballer.

There is no need for the Norway Under-21 international forward to play week in and week out for the City first team at the moment.

What is important is that Bobb does well for the youth side and trains hard when he is with the first team.

Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world, and Bobb just needs to take in whatever the former Barcelona boss teaches him.

For now, Bobb should learn on the training ground and be patient.
