Manchester City legend Kyle Walker has lauded Mateo Kovacic for his winning mentality.

As quoted by the Mirror, the five-time Premier League winner gave his views on City’s recruitment since winning the treble.

Kyle Walker believes Manchester City new-boy Mateo Kovacic, who has won trophies galore and has a wealth of experience under his belt is a cracking signing.

Kyle Walker raves about ‘proven winner’ Mateo Kovacic

Branded as an ‘exceptional player’ by Pep Guardiola, the former Chelsea midfielder looks he has played in sky blue for years already.

Slotting in alongside Rodri, the 29-year-old has been excellent, driving past opponents for fun, showcasing his technical proficiency and picking out incisive passes.

Kyle Walker initially addressed the challenge Manchester City have in terms of improving after winning the treble and the signing of Mateo Kovacic.

“It’s the treble-winning side. So, can you get better? It’s hard. But do I think the recruitment and the players they have brought in are just as good?

“I very much think so. Mateo Kovacic is a proven winner. You don’t win four Champions Leagues and play for Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea if you can’t play.”

There is no project when it comes to Mateo Kovacic

Unlike in the cases of Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes, Manchester City and Kyle Walker seemed to have been well aware of what comes with signing Mateo Kovacic; one of the best midfielders in the world who has a proven track record of stepping up at the biggest stages.

Winning three Champions Leagues in his career whilst having been a mainstay for Croatia in international tournaments, Kovacic fits perfectly into a City side that are expected to compete on all fronts this season.

The decorated midfielder has been there and done that, which is key for a side that lost such an experienced campaigner in Ilkay Gundogan.

Against elite opposition both domestically and in Europe, Mateo Kovacic is likely not to buckle under the pressure as he has thrived in a number of high-stakes scenarios in his career before.
