Manchester City have a significant number of top-level players in their squad.

Having won six out of the last seven Premier League titles on offer, Pep Guardiola’s team have shown how strong they are and how consistent they are when it comes to displaying their dominance.

With City now on the hunt to pick up a fifth consecutive league trophy, their latest game sees them take on Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Ahead of this game, one former Ipswich player has shared his thoughts on one particular player in the City squad who has played a prominent role in the club’s successes in recent years.

Matt Holland names Rodri as his favourite Man City

In a recent interview shared on the official Man City website, Matt Holland had this to say when asked who he admires in Guardiola’s squad.

He said: “I am a big Rodri fan. I do love the way he plays.

“Yes, he is a holding-midfielder, but look at the goals he scores, the way he’s a driving force, the way he holds the ball, the way he wins the ball back, he has everything.

“He is the glue that holds it all together.

“And he is surrounded by flair. That’s not saying he’s not talented himself – he clearly is – but he is the figurehead in the middle of the pitch that holds it all together. He’d be my favourite City player.”

Rodri has been a vital signing for City

Holland isn’t the only pundit to share his admiration for the Spain international recently, as Danny Murphy said that Rodri is City’s most important player.

Since shelling out £62m to sign the midfielder from Atletico Madrid back in 2019, City have seen Rodri make 257 appearances in all competitions.

Having scored 26 goals and delivered 30 assists across those games, the Spaniard has won many trophies with the Blues and played a key part in seeing them win those trophies.

Last season saw the 28-year-old end the Premier League campaign with more shot-creating actions (157) and successful tackles (43) than any other player at City.

This shows why Holland said he thinks Rodri can do anything on the pitch.
