Manchester City supporters had the chance to watch a significant number of their club’s players in action during the 2024 European Championship.
With 14 members of the City squad selected to represent their countries in the tournament, five of them made it to the semi-final stage.
After Spain beat England 2-1 in the final, one key City player who played a prominent role for his country throughout the tournament found himself on the end of some significant praise.

Tony Cascarino hails Rodri after Euro 2024 success
In a recent column for The Times, Tony Cascarino was reflecting on the recent tournament and which individual players stood out to him.
On that subject, the pundit had this to say about Rodri specifically and what he showed throughout the competition.
He said: “It was a pity he was injured for the second half of the final but there was not a better midfielder at the tournament. No one keeps the ball or has better vision than him.”
Rodri was key for Spain
Prior to the final against England, Rodri, who Dani Vivian recently said should have been awarded a Ballon d’Or by now, appeared in all but one of Spain’s matches in the tournament.
Across his six matches, the midfielder, who is currently picking up a weekly wage of £220k-a-week at City, ended the campaign with the third-highest passing accuracy percentage (92.9%) out of the Spain players who started at least one match.
He also racked up the joint-second-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (15) in the Spain squad as well as the second-highest for recoveries made (41).
Having been named the Player of the Tournament after the final, this further highlights how impressive the midfielder was for his nation in their latest international campaign and why Cascarino was so complimentary about him.
