Darren Bent said yesterday that Stefan Ortega Moreno is better than Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, in a discussion about whether clubs should look to take fringe players from Manchester City.
Ortega featured last night for City in the club’s final Champions League group stage match against Red Star Belgrade.
City ran out 3-2 winners, with Micah Hamilton, Oscar Bobb – who was hailed by Neil Lennon ahead of the game – and Kalvin Phillips all scoring their first goals for the club.
It was a perfect qualifying campaign from City, who will find out their last 16 opponents on Monday.
Ahead of the campaign, a debate was taking place on talkSPORT about whether it’s good for other big clubs to be signing ‘cast-offs’ from City.
The chat saw Bent eventually claim that City’s number two Stefan Ortega is better than Manchester United’s number one Andre Onana…
Darren Bent says Stefan Ortega is better than Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana

Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein took a call from a Manchester United fan, who was suggesting that United should be looking to sign Kalvin Phillips in January.
This is something that has actually been reported could happen.
There was then a chat between Bent and Goldstein about other big Premier League clubs moving for City’s fringe players.
Bent said: “I think their number two goalkeeper is better than Onana. He’s better than what you’ve got. If you had a chance of getting Ortega, you’d take him. He’s better than what you’ve got! No it’s not (up for debate), Ortega is better than Onana.”
Ortega has come in for a lot of praise since he joined City last year.
The German stopper is credited with pushing Ederson to high levels, and tends to do a great job when he plays.
Last term, he was fantastic in the FA Cup especially, conceding no goals from open play en route to winning the trophy.
Ortega is better than Onana
There is nothing particularly controversial about what Bent has said here – certainly from what Onana has shown for United so far since his £47 million transfer, it can be argued that Ortega is better.
The German is just solid when he plays and uses the ball really well.
Onana seems to make it quite easy for players to score past him with his positioning and of course, he has made several errors this season.
Ortega might be City’s number two, but he is easily good enough to be the number one goalkeeper at most Premier League clubs. There is a reason that he has been linked with Bayern Munich in recent times.
