Pundit says £54m Man City ace must be a nightmare to play against for defenders – not Haaland

Richard Dunne believes defenders must have an extremely difficult time trying to tame Kevin De Bruyne.

The talismanic midfielder registered his fourth assist in the Premier League this season against Everton, as he is catching up to Julian Alvarez’s (six) and Phil Foden’s (seven) tallies.

Game after game, the Manchester City maestro is dispelling the view that it takes time for players to return to their best after coming back from a long-term injury.

Richard Dunne says Kevin De Bruyne must be a nightmare for defenders to face

After his brilliant brace, Erling Haaland also admitted that he does not even have to look back when the £54 million (The Telegraph) man is playing a pass as he expects it to be on the money.

Richard Dunne has briefly explained why facing Kevin De Bruyne must be a challenge for defenders when asked about his perspective as a centre-back.

“It’s horrible. As Shaun [Wright-Phillips] says, when they [players like Kevin De Bruyne] tease you with a ball that you think you can get but you probably, ‘I don’t know if I can actually’ and then you end up diving in and then stepping off too far, it’s so difficult to play against them”, he said on the club’s official post-match show (via YouTube).

Dunne had also claimed after the contest that De Bruyne is “spot on” with his passing and he tends to create several dangerous chances in the space of a single game, which makes him such a devastating threat.

Jarrad Branthwaite perhaps experienced the same fate against Kevin De Bruyne

Jarrad Branthwaite would perhaps nod in approval of the analysis from Richard Dunne of Kevin De Bruyne.

The pass played by De Bruyne may have given Branthwaite a ray of hope that he had a chance of stopping Haaland in his tracks.

But perhaps the Englishman failed to realise that he still had plenty of space to cover to recover the ball.

Ultimately, the highly-rated centre-half decided to rush into his challenge, leaving Erling Haaland clean through on goal to do what he does best as Everton suffered a defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
