Pundit says £55m Man City star is ‘at the top of his game’ right now even though he’s barely been playing

Pundit Glenn Murray has backed Kevin De Bruyne to fire Manchester City to the Premier League title.

The midfielder made his return to action last weekend during the second half of City’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup after being on the sidelines since August recovering from hamstring surgery.

With the Citizens on the hunt to win the Premier League title once again, one pundit and top-flight figure has backed the Belgian to play a big role in the second half of City’s campaign.

Speaking in a recent episode of Football Daily, Murray had this to say about De Bruyne and what his return to fitness could mean for City and the title race.

He said: “When we talk about De Bruyne, there are a number of players that can combine to try and fill that gap that he leaves. I mean we talk about Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, people like that that can combine to fill his boots but for me De Bruyne is at the top of his game.

“He will be the catalyst that will lead Man City to the title I think.”

On his long-awaited return last weekend, it only took De Bruyne 17 minutes to deliver an assist for his side.

Looking back over the previous Premier League campaign, the 32-year-old, who City paid £55m to sign back in 2015, ended the season with seven goals and 16 assists to his name.

In addition to that, the midfielder made more key passes (96), shot-creating actions (176) and goal-creating actions (31) than any other player in the City squad.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Murray thinks De Bruyne could be able to give his side a big push towards the title, especially if he’s able to be as effective in front of goal as he was last season.
