Numerous Manchester City players got some minutes under their belts during the recent Community Shield final against Manchester United.

Following their pre-season tour of America, Pep Guardiola had almost a full-strength squad available for the recent match against United at Wembley Stadium.

With the score at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the Blues went on to win the following penalty shootout and get revenge on the Red Devils after the previous FA Cup final.

After the game, a pundit and former City player highlighted one figure in Guardiola’s side and shared his admiration for what he did on the pitch on this occasion.

Andy Morrison buzzes over Bernardo Silva’s performance against Man United

Appearing in a recent short shared on City’s official YouTube channel, Andy Morrison had this to say about Bernardo Silva and what he did on the pitch against United.

He said: “Bernardo Silva has come onto the pitch and there’s a lot of young players there who are promising for us and have got great careers ahead of them, but it’s not just the football, it’s the personality of the players that create champions and we have them throughout our team.

“Now he’s come onto the pitch and the first thing he’s done is riling everyone.

“I was watching him, so he’s shouting and screaming at all the rest of the players, he then goes and rattles [Alejandro] Garnacho, ‘I’m not here for your show I’m here to win.’

“He then goes and scores the goal.

“The personality is what produces champions, not just the football and we’re very fortunate we could just name player after player who has that personality in this squad and we’re very fortunate to have him and I love him, I love all five foot six of him.”

Silva showed his importance

Starting the match on the bench, Silva replaced James McAtee in the 80th minute.

Two minutes later, Garnacho put United ahead, only for the Portuguese international to score the crucial equaliser just before the 90-minute mark.

Not only did Silva show his importance to City by scoring this late goal, but with Morrison also highlighting the midfielder’s personality and attitude on the pitch, this further highlights how vital he is for the team.
