Don Hutchison believes Pep Guardiola would be upset if Michael Edwards convinced Jurgen Klopp to stay at Liverpool.

Klopp has decided to bid farewell to Anfield at the end of the season, with journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that Edwards is set to return to the club next season as their brand-new CEO.

It seems like the Reds have decided to take another step to ensure they can compete with Manchester City moving forward.

Don Hutchison says Pep Guardiola would be “gutted” if Michael Edwards convinced Jurgen Klopp to stay at Liverpool

Over the years, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have shared a legendary rivalry, with the former admitting that the latter is his toughest-ever managerial rival.

However, with Klopp set to depart the club, Guardiola will likely only have Arteta to compete with as his title rival next season.

But Don Hutchison has claimed that Pep Guardiola would be far from delighted if Michael Edwards persuaded Jurgen Klopp to stay at Liverpool.

“M. Edwards’ first job should be to sit down with J. Klopp. Ask him what will it take to make him stay, promise him two or three big names. Imagine the impact on the Liverpool fans if he changed his mind. It would be monumental and huge for FSG and Edwards Pep[Guardiola],[Mikel] Arteta etc., gutted”, he wrote on X.

Pep Guardiola would perhaps be happy if the Liverpool legend stayed

In our view, if Michael Edwards listened to Don Hutchison and persuaded Jurgen Klopp to stay at Liverpool, Pep Guardiola would be delighted.

The Catalan tactician is known to be a serial winner and perhaps one of the reasons why he has stayed at Manchester City for a longer period than Barcelona and Bayern Munich may be due to the competition he has faced at the top from the 56-year-old.

Competitors like Guardiola thrive when they face a rival as accomplished and relentless as Klopp has been at Liverpool.

In addition, the Spaniard seems to embrace the competition instead of running away from it, as do his players at City.

As a result, if Michael Edwards convinced Jurgen Klopp to stay at Liverpool, the Manchester City boss would perhaps be all smiles.
