Manchester City have seen one player join the club and numerous others leave during the current summer transfer window.
Having brought in Savinho from Troyes last month, the Citizens saw Sergio Gomez wave goodbye to the Etihad Stadium among others such as Liam Delap, Tommy Doyle and Taylor Harwood-Bellis on permanent deals.
Now that the Manchester club could be about to sell one of their key players for a significant sum of money, a pundit has now shared his verdict on what the remainder of the summer transfer window could look like for the Blues.
- Who is Julian Alvarez? The story of the striker who won it all at Man City before joining Atletico Madrid

Don Hutchison claims Pep Guardiola will be looking to sign a striker to replace Julian Alvarez
Following recent reports claiming that Atletico Madrid look set to sign Julian Alvarez in a deal worth €95m (via The Athletic), Don Hutchison said this in a recent video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel about what City could do after selling the Argentine.
He said: “You’re going to have to buy or you’re going to have to be smart, which Guardiola will, and he’ll have targets, I’m pretty sure. He’s not just going to let Alvarez go for €95m and think well that’s our squad done for the season.
“It’d be more or less impossible. Pep’s always said about game time and the minutes that these players are playing, the squad list on paper looks really, really good.
“I expect Oscar Bobb to have more game time this season, Grealish is going to be in a fight on the left-hand side with Jeremy Doku. You need a fully fit Kevin De Bruyne. Savinho, depends on how many minutes he gets.
“But still, unless Guardiola is going to play Phil Foden or Bernardo Silva as a false nine, I would be stunned if he’s not in the market for a number nine.”
City have a big decision to make
Interestingly, Guardiola said last month that the club would only look to bring a new player in should any current figure leave.
With Erling Haaland being the only predominant striker in City’s squad aside from Alvarez, it’s easy to see why Hutchison thinks a new number nine should be at the top of the club’s transfer list following the reported eventual exit of the Argentina international.
Also taking into account how Alvarez scored 19 goals and delivered 13 assists in 54 appearances last season, whilst playing in numerous positions, we feel that it could be a tough ask for City to bring in a player this summer who would be able to offer the versatility and attacking prowess than the 24-year-old has.
Either way, with the summer window set to close at the end of the month, it’s safe to say that City have a big decision to make about their transfer pursuits in the coming weeks.
