Pundit shares who he thinks is the greater Premier League right-back – Kyle Walker or Trent Alexander-Arnold

It could be argued that the Premier League’s two greatest-ever right-backs are currently active: Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Walker and Alexander-Arnold are polar opposites as players.

The Manchester City legend has gained a reputation for being an expert at keeping elite wingers quiet for a number of years and defensively, he could be the greatest player in his position across Premier League history.

Defensively, the £50 million man is comparable to the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Neville.

However, Alexander-Arnold has been a creative machine for Liverpool since he broke through into their first-team under Jurgen Klopp.

The 26-year-old is tied with Andy Robertson as the defender with the most assists (59) to his name in Premier League history.

Walker, on the other hand has 39 assists while playing in the league for much longer than Alexander-Arnold.

Danny Mills settles Walker vs Alexander-Arnold debate

The Liverpool vice-captain is a far superior creator to the six-time Premier League winner.

Rio Ferdinand compared Alexander-Arnold’s passing to Kevin De Bruyne; such is the extent of his remarkable technical ability.

But defensively, the treble-winner has been far more reliable than the West Derby-born sensation.

As a result, while Walker and Alexander-Arnold play in the same position, their roles are completely different.

The player one prefers depends on the attributes that they value in a right-back.

However, Danny Mills feels Walker is a greater right-back than Alexander-Arnold when assessing his career in the Premier League.

On talkSPORT, Mills named the right-backs he feels are superior to the Reds icon.

“Kyle Walker.”

“[Branislav] Ivanovic, Gary Neville, hate to say that. Lee Dixon’s in there, I mean, there are so many! Paulo Ferreira at Chelsea.”

“No. If you’re talking best-ever in the Premier League, he’s nowhere near it!”

Kyle Walker is a better Premier League right-back than Trent Alexander-Arnold

When judging the entirety of their respective careers in the Premier League, it is hard not to agree with Danny Mills when siding with Walker over Alexander-Arnold.

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender has won far more trophies during his time in England and been a key cog in several of City’s successful teams.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that while the right-back position has changed over time, it is essentially a defensive role and Walker has mastered that to the extent that Alexander-Arnold is yet to.

While the 34-year-old was never as creative as the two-time Carabao Cup winner, he showcased at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino that he is well-capable of being a top-class attacking right-back as well.

Additionally, the Sky Blues captain’s excellent spell in a Tottenham shirt also exemplifies how brilliant he has been during his time in the English top-flight.

As a result, it might be premature to claim that Alexander-Arnold has surpassed Walker as a superior right-back in the Premier League’s history books.
