Ederson is just one of many Manchester City players who have been busy on international duty across the last two weeks.
The Brazil international has managed to reclaim his No.1 spot from Liverpool’s Alisson Becker following the departure of Tite, and he did something no other goalkeeper in the history of his nation has managed before.

Well, the Manchester City No.31 set a new record in competitive matches for Brazil after completing 44 successful passes in the 1-0 win over Peru.
Brazilian news outlet UOL claim that Ederson’s 44 passes have seen him leapfrog Emerson Leão, who previously set the record back in 1978 with 29 successful passes.
Dida is third with 27 successful passes, made during a game back in 2006, while the aforementioned Alisson is fourth with 26 successful passes, which he recorded in 2021.
As you can see, Ederson did not just beat the record by a small margin – he absolutely smashed it.
UOL go on to describe the £34.7m man as a “quality” goalkeeper with the ball at his feet, and explain how this specific trait has helped him outmuscle Alisson to reclaim the No.1 spot.
After a tough time on the international scene recently, in which Ederson has been forced to watch Alisson start in between the sticks at both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, it is now the 30-year-old’s time to shine under Fernando Diniz.
Ederson resurgence is good news for Manchester City
It goes without saying that Ederson’s resurgence for Brazil is good news for Manchester City.
Alisson is obviously an immense goalkeeper who rarely makes a mistake, which means Ederson will surely be doing all he can to maintain a high level of performance, and keep his No.1 shirt for Brazil.
That should mean Pep Guardiola has a highly focused and committed glovesman on his hands for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign, and potentially for the next two seasons ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Hopefully, Ederson can keep it up, as he is playing some excellent stuff right now.
