Danny Mills has claimed Phil Foden did not have his best of games in a Manchester City shirt during his side’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Considering the City attacker has been regarded as the standout player in the Premier League this season, perhaps many expected him to emerge as the difference-maker at Anfield.
In addition, Foden was coming off the back of a heroic performance in the Manchester Derby and perhaps several fans and pundits alike were hoping he could produce a similarly emphatic showing.
Danny Mills says Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden was “quiet” in 1-1 draw against Liverpool
The 23-year-old has quite an impressive record against Liverpool, with three goals and two assists to his name against them in seven appearances in the Premier League.
In the 2021/2022 campaign, the Englishman produced a display for the ages in City’s 2-2 draw against the Reds at Anfield; a game where he also got on the scoresheet.
However, as Phil Foden was not at the races for Manchester City against Liverpool, Danny Mills had his say on his showing on Sunday.

“I thought he was a little bit quiet today and he had that one big chance, one-on-one, where I think he hit [Caoimhin] Kelleher with a shot”, he told Stadium Astro.
Phil Foden is allowed to have an off day
While Danny Mills is correct about Phil Foden being quiet for Manchester City against Liverpool, he is allowed to have an off day, in our view.
Some might disagree as Foden has arguably become City’s main man but at the same time, one must keep in mind that he is only 23 years old.
Foden may not be regarded as a youngster anymore but he is far from a player who is in his peak years and as a result, he still needs room to grow and further hone his craft.
Playing as a touchline winger for a majority of the game against Liverpool, it was no surprise to see the treble-winner fail to impact proceedings as he is at his dangerous best when he is allowed to drift in centrally from out wide, which was not the case against Klopp’s side.
