Manchester City saw numerous players leave the club during the 2024 summer transfer window.

As tends to be the case at the Manchester club, they saw several players leave the Etihad Stadium either on loan or permanent deals.

Pep Guardiola’s side also brought in Savinho from Troyes in a deal worth £33m as well as bringing Ilkay Gundogan back to the club from Barcelona on a free transfer.

With the window now over, let’s take a look at the departures that have taken place at City this summer and rank the deals from best to worst.

Ranking all of Man City’s sales from the 2024 summer transfer window

Julian Alvarez – £81m to Atletico Madrid

Having spent just £14m to sign the Argentine from River Plate back in 2022, making such a significant profit on the striker who scored 36 goals and delivered 18 assists in 103 games makes Alvarez’s £81m (via BBC Sport) move to Atletico City’s best deal of the summer.

Liam Delap – £20m to Ipswich Town

With just six senior appearances for City to his name, the champions picked up £20m (via BBC Sport) for Delap from newly promoted Ipswich Town.

This proved to be another example of how beneficial the club’s youth academy can be when it comes to selling players who may not have had a clear route to first-team football at City.

Joao Cancelo – £21.2m to Al-Hilal

18 months after his reported falling out with Guardiola, during which time he completed loan deals at Bayern Munich and Barcelona, City finally managed to get Cancelo off their books by selling him to Al-Hilal for £21.2m (via BBC Sport).

Even though they made a loss on him after paying £60m (via The Telegraph) to sign him back in 2019, City got a lot out of the full-back as he scored nine goals and provided 21 assists in 154 appearances across all competitions.

Micah Hamilton – £2m to Middlesbrough

Making his senior debut for the Blues last season, Hamilton’s move to Middlesbrough for an initial fee of £2m which could rise to £5m may have surprised some City fans.

However, to pick up such a fee and get a 25% sell-on clause as well as a buy-back back option and matching rights according to journalist Jack Gaughan on X, shows how much City rate the winger and what he could go on to become in the future.

Sergio Gomez – £8.4m to Real Sociedad

City paid £11m (via Sky Sports) to sign Gomez back in the 2022 summer transfer window. After making just 14 starts for the Blues across two seasons, the club made a loss on the Spaniard by selling him to Real Sociedad for £8.4m (via BBC Sport).

With this transfer not working out for the player or City, the fact that they’ve not been able to make a profit on him highlights this and makes it their worst deal of the summer.

City have sealed some good deals this summer

With all of those deals in mind, it’s clear that, from a financial point of view, the club and its sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, have been able to secure a significant amount of money for players the team arent likely to miss too much.
