Manchester City slipped to defeat against Leeds United at the weekend.
The Citizens were beaten 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium by Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who were fully worth their victory after playing half the game with 10 men.
It was an off day for City, with Guardiola making lots of changes with the Borussia Dortmund second leg in mind.
After the game against Leeds, Guardiola’s comments included praise for one visiting player.
He said (via YEP): “Of course he’s a weapon, an exceptional player with good pace.
“Every player under Marcelo is getting better.
“He played a good game.”
Raphinha has been the outstanding player for Leeds this season.
Patrick Bamford may have often grabbed headlines this term with his goals, but the Brazilian is simply a joy to watch and is always a danger.
Amid reports (Sunday People) Aston Villa could demand £75 million for Jack Grealish, Raphinha could make a very decent, cheaper alternative for the Premier League leaders.
Raphinha is ‘City-ready’
If City want to add another forward this summer, as it seems they do given the constant links to Grealish, then Raphinha is surely worth considering.
He’d be expensive, but would certainly come far cheaper than the Villa captain.
It is well known how much Guardiola values a player’s work rate, and the South American is just relentless when it comes to his work out of possession.
City could do so much worse than to put in a cheeky bid for Raphinha this summer.
