Rayan Cherki has taken a leap of faith by leaving his boyhood club Lyon to sign for Manchester City, as he is seemingly ready to test himself at the highest level.
Since breaking through at the Groupama Stadium, the Frenchman has been recognised as one of Europe’s most prodigious youngsters.
Kylian Mbappe has always admired Cherki and last season, the 21-year-old justified the hype surrounding his name by providing a combined 32 goals and assists.
The good news for Pep Guardiola is that his former player Thierry Henry noted the maturity in Cherki’s game.

While Rayan Cherki certainly seems to be hitting the heights that were always expected of him, how Guardiola gets the best out of the highly-rated attacking midfielder remains to be seen.
Cherki is a versatile player and gives the Catalan tactician several options of where to deploy him in his system.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official in-house media, the youngster first claimed that Pep Guardiola is the greatest manager to have ever graced the game: “For me, he’s the best coach in the world and I think he’s the best coach in history and to work for him is an honour for me and I’m impatient to work for him.”
Cherki is excited to work with Guardiola and believes that he can fit into his system as well.
“Yeah, I’m ready, I worked for this moment because the high level is this and I wait for this with impatience.”
Cherki has already told Pep Guardiola his ultimate goal at Man City
The youngster certainly does not come across as a player who is lacking any kind of self-confidence.
Alexandre Lacazette claimed Cherki has found himself and has been a joy to work with.
Cherki revealed he wants to lead Manchester City into a new era where they continue to taste success, which will be music to Pep Guardiola’s ears.
“The responsibility to help the team continue winning is something I want to embrace.”
Cherki also revealed that he rates Manchester City’s project highly and ultimately, it was one that was too good to turn down.
The French international said: “I would only leave Lyon for a project I really believe in and everything at City suggests I can develop my game and help the team be successful in the future.”
