On Saturday, Pep Guardiola emphasised the importance of Bernardo Silva staying at Manchester City.

The Portuguese maestro stole the show for City in the FA Cup quarter-final, scoring a deflected brace against Newcastle United in a 2-0 victory.

As a result, Pep Guardiola’s men were able to avenge their defeat to the Magpies in the Carabao Cup in comfortable fashion.

Pep Guardiola admits he would love Bernardo Silva to stay at Manchester City

It seems like the £43 million (Sky Sports) man has hit form as crunch time has arrived for the Sky Blues this campaign, with heavyweight clashes against Arsenal and Real Madrid awaiting them.

Considering how decisive a player Bernardo has been for years, it would be no surprise if he unleashes the best version of himself just when City need him to perform the most.

As Bernardo Silva did so against Newcastle as well, Pep Guardiola briefly touched on how key it is for him to stay at Manchester City.

“Everybody loves him and we want him, even though the goals are deflections”, Guardiola said in his post-match press conference [via HaytersTV].

“Yeah, [he’s] really important for us and staying with us is really, really important.”

“I’ve said many times how important, personally and in terms of football Bernardo [Silva] is.”

Best to focus on the present with Bernardo Silva

While the importance of Bernardo Silva staying at Manchester City beyond this season cannot be overstated, as Pep Guardiola explained, his future plans remain a mystery.

Instead, it is best to focus on the present with Bernardo, who knows what it takes to get City over the line when crunch time emerges.

The treble-winner impressed in his favoured right-sided central midfield role against Eddie Howe’s side as he controlled proceedings, played incisive passes and always found himself in acres of free space.

If Bernardo Silva manages to maintain such excellent displays until the end of the season, Pep Guardiola will be the happiest man in the world.
