‘Really poor’: Manager criticises decisive moment involving £64,000-a-week Manchester City target

David Moyes has criticised the defending by Nayef Aguerd just before Bernardo Silva scored to put Manchester City 2-1 up against West Ham.

According to The Sun, West Ham’s No.27 is a target for Pep Guardiola in 2024.

So, what did David Moyes say about Nayef Aguerd‘s defending? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, if Saturday’s match was an audition for the Morocco international, it did not go too well.

Aguerd was at fault for the game’s decisive moment, mistiming his header and allowing the ball to bounce as Bernardo Silva stole in to slot home.

Discussing that moment, Moyes told BBC Sport: “It was bad timing for their first goal right after half-time, but I was more disappointed with their second goal – it was really poor.”

It is safe to say that the £64,000-a-week defender could have done better with Julian Alvarez’s scooped pass, although Alphonse Areola also could have been more commanding in that moment too.

Nevertheless, if Guardiola is genuinely interested in Aguerd, he may now be having second thoughts.

Nayef Aguerd is not the only West Ham player Manchester City admire

Aguerd is not the only West Ham player on Manchester City’s radar.

Lucas Paqueta was involved in one of the transfer sagas of the summer when Manchester City came calling with a bid – according to Sky Sports – but the deal went quiet amid a betting investigation.

Nevertheless, the Brazil international was still seen greeting Guardiola and Juanma Lillo at the London Stadium, jogging over to the opposition dugout to say hello.

Paqueta also delivered a strong performance in midfield, up against some of the best around such as Rodri and Silva, completing more passes and taking more touches than any of his teammates, as WhoScored shows.

If the South American is found to be innocent amid the betting investigation, don’t rule out a move to the Etihad Stadium in 2024.
