Paul Merson has shared his verdict on Manchester City’s recent Premier League win over Brentford.

On Monday night, the Citizens came from 1-0 down to beat Thomas Frank’s side 3-1 away from home, with Phil Foden scoring all three goals on the night.

Now though, one pundit has shared his thoughts on what he saw from the league champions in their latest outing.

Written in his latest column for Sportskeeda where he previewed all of this weekend’s upcoming league fixtures, Merson had this to say about what he saw from City against Brentford.

He said: “I was at the Brentford-Manchester City game with my boy and Man City were mostly in second gear.

“The Bees scored a brilliant goal through Neal Maupay to break the deadlock, but Guardiola and Co were absolutely relentless after going behind despite not being at their best and came away with all three points thanks to a Phil Foden hat-trick.”

Looking back over Monday’s away win, Pep Guardiola’s side ended the game with 72% possession and were able to rack up 25 attempts at goal in total, forcing Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken to make 12 saves.

This backs up Merson’s point about how relentless the away side were and why they deserved to win the game.

At the end of the match, City walked away with three points and an overall team rating of 7.6/10 from SofaScore, which was higher than the 6.85/10 rating Brentford were given.

Bearing in mind how Brentford beat the Manchester club in both of their league meetings last season, this latest match will have provided a big boost to Guardiola’s players as they continue their run to try and regain the title.

Moving forward, if City can continue winning games and being relentless in their performances, they will definitely have a great chance of making history and becoming the first side to win four consecutive Premier League trophies.
