Michael Brown has praised Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez for his mentality.
After enjoying an incredibly successful debut season at the Manchester club, the striker is in the middle of his second campaign where he and the rest of his teammates are aiming to regain the trophies they won last time out.
Having scored a goal in City’s previous Champions League game against Copenhagen, the Argentine has found himself on the receiving end of some big praise from one former City player.
Brown hails Alvarez’s mindset
Speaking in a livestream on the club’s YouTube channel prior to the Champions League quarter-final and semi-final draws, Brown had this to say about Alvarez and his mentality.
He said: “For me, somebody who sets an example on the pitch, who the first day he came in the work ethic, the way he went around, the way he presses, the way he gets his head in the game.
“He was slightly disappointed missing the odd game where it’s been so good with him and Erling Haaland not being available but you just feel like he’s ready, he wants to get on the pitch, set the right tone, he hasn’t sulked when he’s left out and that’s the hardest thing to do.
“It’s a new era now that you have to do that at this football club or any football club right at the top. It’s hard to take when you’ve gone so well to actually then sit back out. But looking at the trophies he’s won already, it’s just remarkable.”
Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium back in 2022, Alvarez has made 90 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring 33 goals and providing 18 assists along the way.
Brown’s comments aren’t the first time the 23-year-old has been praised for his mindset, as Tony Cascarino said back in September that the striker’s mentality is “exceptional” because of the trophies he’s won and how prominent he has been in seeing his club and country lift them.
With all of that in mind, it’s clear that while Alvarez offers a lot on the pitch in terms of his goals and assists, he also has the personality and mentality to be a top player in a top side like City, further highlighting what a great signing he has been for the club.
