Report: After Declan Rice, City may now have another midfield move hijacked by a London club

Manchester City could be in danger of missing out on a summer transfer move for Gabri Veiga as well as Declan Rice.

Earlier this week, after seeing a £90m bid rejected by West Ham United, the Manchester club decided to pull out of the race to sign the Englishman, leaving Arsenal as the frontrunners to secure a deal for him.

After that, it was reported that the Citizens had joined Chelsea and Liverpool in being in the frame to sign Veiga from Celta Vigo.

Now though, lightning could be about to strike twice for the European champions.

According to a recent report from the Evening Standard, Chelsea are expected to make a move to sign Veiga if they manage to get rid of Mason Mount in this window.

Having worked his way through the youth ranks at Celta, the 21-year-old has now made 55 senior appearances for the Spanish club across all competitions.

Last season saw the midfielder score 11 goals in 36 La Liga appearances, two of which came against Barcelona in the final game of the campaign where Celta beat Xavi’s side 2-1.

With more league goals to his name last season than the likes of Vinicius Junior (10), Raphinha (7) and Ousmane Dembele (5), this makes it easy to see why the Spaniard has caught the attention of some of England’s top sides.

In addition to walking away from potentially signing Rice, the Manchester club will be without club captain Ilkay Gundogan next season as he has secured a deal to join Barcelona as a free agent.

This, therefore, even though they have brought in Mateo Kovacic for £30m, makes a move for someone like Veiga a suitable next step in this window for City.

Moving forward, if they don’t want history to repeat itself, we feel that the Citizens should do all they can to seal a deal for the Celta star as soon as possible.
