Agent has now conceded he won’t be able to get £60m Man City player to Barcelona this summer

Football agent, Jorge Mendes reportedly feels that it would be very difficult to seal a move for Joao Cancelo to Barcelona from Manchester City this summer.

Last month, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the defender will be leaving the Manchester club on a permanent basis after a decision was made by all parties.

Romano then added that Barcelona are the most interested club in the right-back but still have financial issues to worry about.

Now, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding this particular transfer situation.

According to a recent report from Spanish media outlet Sport, Mendes realises that working out a deal that would see Cancelo join Barcelona from City this summer would be very difficult.

The report also adds that Mendes is currently focusing on getting Joao Felix to the Camp Nou after the player recently shared his ambition of playing for the Spanish club.

City spent £60m to sign the 28-year-old from Juventus back in the 2019 summer transfer window and since went on to see him make 154 appearances for the club before he joined Bayern Munich on loan in January after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola.

In fact, the City boss revealed that the club were so keen to get the full-back out in January that they would have even been willing to sell him to Manchester United.

Now that Cancelo’s agent apparently feels that a move to Barcelona would be a difficult one to make happen in this window, it seems that City may have to look elsewhere to offload the Portuguese international and hope that another side can pay what the European champions feel is suitable for him.
