Bayern Munich reportedly have an interest in signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this summer.

The Citizens could already be seeing one of their midfielders wave goodbye to the Etihad Stadium in this window as Ilkay Gundogan has reportedly agreed a deal to join Barcelona as a free agent.

Now though, another one of Pep Guardiola’s midfield options has caught the attention of one of Europe’s top clubs.

Bayern eyeing Phillips move

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Christian Falk had this to say on the situation.

He said: “FC Bayern have Kalvin Phillips (27) of Manchester City on their Shortlist. Philips is the alternative for Declan Rice.”

As well as Phillips, the German club have also linked with a move for Kyle Walker in recent days, meaning that they could be doing a double raid on City this summer.

The European champions only signed the 27-year-old during the previous summer transfer window from Leeds United in a deal worth a reported fee of £45m.

Across his debut season at the Etihad, Phillips lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies, but only started four of the 21 games he appeared in across all competitions.

Even though the England international recently shared his intention of staying at City and fighting for a regular place in the team, the prospect of potentially playing regularly for Bayern could sway the midfielder into changing his current stance about his future.

Also, as Falk mentioned, with Bayern seemingly out of the picture in terms of signing Rice, who City are now firmly in the frame to buy, after previous interest, it could make sense if the Citizens were to land a deal for the West Ham United midfielder, they would then move Phillips out to Germany.
