Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the situation of Manchetser City striker Sergio Aguero.
According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are keeping their eye on the Argentine star, who will be leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer on a free transfer as things currently stand.
Aguero’s £230,000-a-week contract (Spotrac) is almost up and there has been some talk of a potential move to Barcelona.
Chelsea are known to be long-term admirers of the South American, having shown interest before his move to City from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
Now, 10 years on, they could get their man, with Aguero’s City career looking like it may be coming to an end.
The 32-year-old has struggled with injuries and illness in recent times, and he’s started just five games under Pep Guardiola this season.
He is said to be disappointed with his lack of minutes since his return to full fitness though.
It’s stated within the Daily Mail’s report that Aguero would prefer to stay in the Premier League, so perhaps a move to Chelsea should not be entirely ruled out.
City thriving without Aguero
Seeing Aguero turning out in a Chelsea shirt next season would be a bit of a sickener for City fans.
That said, the situation right now appears to be that the club are prepared for him to depart on expiry of his contract, and he can go wherever he chooses.
A big a club legend as he is, Aguero’s record with injuries in recent times is undeniable, and probably means it’s time to move on.
The team have shown this season that there is life after the superstar, and fans should feel comfortable with his departure at this point.
