Manchester United are actually aware that Manchester City want to sign Kobbie Mainoo – and have known for years.

That is according to the Manchester Evening News – who also shared how Manchester United feel about Manchester City monitoring the youngster.

So, how do Manchester United feel about Manchester City looking at Kobbie Mainoo? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it was FourFourTwo who claimed that Manchester City want to sign the 18-year-old wonderkid from their bitter rivals.

Not many further details were added, although the Manchester Evening News have now advanced the story.

It is said that Manchester United know they have a quality prospect on their hands, and have seen nothing from Mainoo which suggests he would be willing to force a move from Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are – therefore – relaxed about Manchester City’s interest in the teenager, who Bruno Fernandes called a “great player” back in July when speaking to MUTV.

It is also said that Manchester City have made previous attempts to sign Mainoo – who has been at Manchester United since the age of nine – but the England U19 international has always opted to stay.

Manchester City will find it hard to sign Kobbie Mainoo

In our view, it will be hugely difficult for Manchester City to sign Mainoo.

The Stockport-born wonderkid seems to love Manchester United, and having previously resisted advances from Manchester City, it will surely take something significant for him to change his mind now.

Mainoo is on the cusp of becoming a regular under Erik ten Hag when he builds up some match fitness following a serious injury, whereas he would have to start all over again at Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola has a wealth of options in his midfield department.

Therefore – barring any shock developments – we can’t see the teenager ending up at the Etihad Stadium anytime soon, if ever.
