Report: Laporte could join Barcelona in swap deal

Manchester City could overhaul their squad this summer, and a report in Spain has brought up the prospect of Aymeric Laporte moving on.

City may have won the Premier League at a canter, but the failure in the Champions League final means changes may come.

A striker and a left back will surely be on Pep Guardiola’s radar, but a reunion with Sergi Roberto is one thing fans maybe didn’t predict.

Laporte to Barcelona for Sergi Roberto

Spanish newspaper SPORT claim that Barcelona are now in talks over a swap deal to sign City defender Aymeric Laporte.

They’re already signing Eric Garcia, but now seemingly want his new Spanish international teammate Laporte too.

In exchange, Barca would be sending Sergi Roberto to City given that they can’t afford to buy Laporte with straight cash.

Pep is a big fan

The report claims that Guardiola believes Roberto is a ‘top level’ performer and Roberto himself would only leave Barca to join up with Guardiola.

Capable of playing at right back or in midfield, Roberto may be a steady, versatile option for Guardiola.

Roberto is though 29, and City fans may question the wisdom of swapping a talented defender in Laporte for a player nearing his 30’s.
