Manchester City believe one of their current players is the best in the world right now in his position.

The Citizens recently made club history by winning the treble, which included their first Champions League title and their fifth Premier League trophy in six years.

Now that the season has come to an end, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding the club’s feelings towards one player at the Etihad Stadium who played a significant part in their domestic and European success last term.

According to a recent report from The Athletic, City consider Rodri to be the best defensive-midfielder in the world at this moment in time.

City signed the Spaniard back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth a reported fee of £62m.

Since then, the 27-year-old has gone on to make 207 appearances for the Manchester club across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 16 assists along the way.

His latest goal, and most important one, came in the Champions League final as Pep Guardiola’s side beat Inter Milan to secure the treble, marking his place in the club’s history books.

In addition to that, Rodri ended his latest Premier League campaign with the highest passing accuracy percentage (91.2%) than any other predominant midfielder in the division as well as making more passes into the final third of the pitch (265) than any other player in the league.

Having also been hailed by Danny Murphy for his “phenomenal” durability in being able to play so many games across a season, this also backs up why City see him as the best player in the position in the world right now.
