Report: Man City could cause Liverpool a big problem by signing £86m ‘monster’ this summer

Manchester City have the chance to potentially scupper one of Liverpool’s reported transfer moves this summer.

As things stand, both clubs have their eyes on buying two players from the same club, with City looking to sign Josko Gvardiol after agreeing personal terms, and Liverpool reportedly having an interest in midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

With that in mind, it has been claimed that the Manchester club could have an impact on the Reds’ chances of signing their target.

According to a recent report from the Evening Standard, if City were to finalise a deal for Gvardiol in this window, this would harden Leipzig’s stance on allowing Szoboszlai to join Liverpool.

In terms of City’s potential move for the centre-back, it was reported earlier this week that Leipzig want at least €100m (£86m) for the Croatian.

This means it would be a significant investment for the Manchester club to make if they want to add the 21-year-old, who has been previously described as a “monster” on the pitch by Fabrizio Romano, to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Even though Jurgen Klopp’s side didn’t come close to competing with City for the Premier League title last season, potentially making it harder for them to strengthen their squad by signing Szoboszlai could be an added bonus for the European champions to make sure they don’t get back towards that sort of position.

However, if City are going to try and strike a deal to sign Gvardiol, the main reason should be because they believe he will make the team better and be a long-term figure at the club.
