Manchester City are reportedly braced for an approach from Celtic over potentially seeing Enzo Maresca become their new manager.

The Hoops are now without a manager after Ange Postecoglou was recently announced as the new Tottenham Hotspur head coach.

This has since led to the Scottish club setting their sights on one particular figure to possibly replace the departed Australian.

Celtic intensify managerial interest in Maresca

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Mark Hendry said this on the matter.

He said: “Enzo Maresca Celtic manager interest intensifies as Manchester City braced for official approach.”

Attached to this post was an article written by Hendry for footballscotland, which adds that the Scottish club are interested in talking to Maresca again after they interviewed him for the Celtic manager position back in 2021 before they appointed Postecoglou.

Between August 2020 and May 2021, the Italian took charge of 28 games with City’s U23 squad, winning 14, drawing five and losing five.

The 43-year-old then went on to have a rather disappointing spell in charge of Parma in his first senior management job, during which he won just four of the 14 games he had in the dugout.

Since July 2022, Maresca has been a part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff, who have recently won their fifth Premier League title in six years, as well as the FA Cup.

Back in 2021, the City boss claimed that he thinks Maresca will become an “extraordinary” manager in the future, which could make the opportunity to take charge of Celtic this time around the ideal chance for him to do that.

However, with the Citizens preparing to take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final this weekend, it would be safe to assume that this will be the Italian’s main focus for the time being.

Beyond that, if Celtic were to make another approach for the City coach, it would certainly be a big decision for him to make.
