Manchester City could put themselves in the frame to sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill if he decides to not sign a new contract at the west London club.

The Manchester club have a track record when it comes to signing players from fellow Premier League clubs such as Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips and Riyad Mahrez among others.

It has now been claimed that the European champions have another top-flight figure on their radar for this current summer transfer window.

According to a recent report from the Evening Standard, City and Liverpool could enter the market to sign Colwill this summer, with the defender wanting to speak to Mauricio Pochettino about his role in the team before pledging his future to the club.

The report also mentions that even though Chelsea are keen to see Colwill sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge and insist he is not for sale, Brighton & Hove Albion have made a £40m bid to sign the centre-back on a permanent basis.

Last season saw the 20-year-old spend the season on loan at Brighton where he made 22 senior appearances for the Seagulls across all competitions, chipping in with two assists.

Taking into account how the south coast club are apparently willing to shell out a club-record transfer fee to bring Colwill back to the AMEX Stadium permanently this summer, this showcases how highly they must think of him and what he did there last season.

Also, with Chelsea keen to keep hold of him and now having the likes of City and Liverpool keeping an eye on his situation, this further highlights how impressive he is.

Moving forward, if an opportunity to sign the Chelsea defender arises this summer and is something that would suit all parties, this is definitely something that City could get involved in and see them secure a long-term talent for the club.
