Manchester City are reportedly expected to agree a transfer fee to sign Mateo Kovacic in the next few days.
The Citizens recently brought an end to their historic season by securing the Premier League, the FA Cup and their first Champions League title.
Now though, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the club’s first piece of potential summer transfer business.
Kovacic expecting City to agree transfer fee
According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Kovacic is “expecting” City to agree a fee for his transfer in the coming days.
The report also adds that “the 29-year-old has held positive talks with City after being given permission to speak to them last month.”
After making 109 appearances for Real Madrid, a time during which he won three Champions League titles, the midfielder initially joined Chelsea on loan in 2018 before securing a permanent move to Stamford Bridge a year later for a fee of £40m.
Having made 221 appearances for the west London club, scoring six goals and delivering 15 assists along the way, the Croatian now looks to be part of the reported summer clear-out at Chelsea.
In terms of a potential transfer fee, it could be presumed that taking into account his age and the fact that he will be entering the final year of his contract at the end of the month, City may look to offer less than what Chelsea forked out for him back in 2019.
Moving forward, with title celebrations now over, the people behind the scenes at the Etihad Stadium will now be focused on getting deals done before next season kicks off, starting with getting Kovacic through the door.
