Manchester City are reportedly confident of landing a summer transfer deal for Josko Gvardiol in this window.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Citizens are preparing to make a move to sign the RB Leipzig defender.
Now though, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the Manchester club’s pursuit of the centre-back.
Man City confident on Gvardiol transfer
According to a recent report from 90 Min, City are continuing talks with Leipzig over a potential deal for Gvardiol and are confident that they can agree terms on a move to the Etihad Stadium with the player himself.
The report also adds that a potential stumbling block in this deal is the transfer fee, with City not looking to pay the €100m (£85m) price that Leipzig are looking to pick up for him, although the Manchester club are still confident a deal will be struck this summer.
Described by Fabrizio Romano as “one of best talents in the world,” Gvardiol showed what he’s capable of during Croatia’s campaign in the previous World Cup in Qatar where he showcased his defensive attributes.
Specifically, starting all seven of their games in the tournament, the defender ended the campaign with the highest average of clearances (5.3) and interceptions per game (1.6) in the squad.
This could be why the Manchester club are apparently keen on bringing the 21-year-old to the Etihad this summer and make him a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Moving forward, if the people behind the scenes at City can negotiate a deal with Leipzig that suits all parties, this could be a smart piece of business from them if Gvardiol becomes an important long-term figure at the club.
