Manchester City have reportedly held talks with the agent of Gabri Veiga over a potential transfer move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Manchester club had joined Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder.

Now though, some extra information has come to the fore regarding City’s interest in the Spaniard, who has been described as a “quality” player by talent scout Jacek Kulig on Twitter.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, City, as well as Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United have spoken to Veiga’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to express their interest in signing the 21-year-old.

The report also adds that these clubs have indicated to Mendes that they would be willing to meet the €40m (£34m) release clause in the player’s current contract at Celta in a one up-front payment or even pay extra in paid instalments.

After working his way through the youth ranks at the Spanish club, the midfielder has gone on to make 55 senior appearances for Celta, with all 11 of the goals he has scored across those appearances coming throughout the previous La Liga campaign.

With the Citizens recently pulling out of the race to sign Declan Rice after seeing a £90m bid for him rejected by West Ham United, it’s easy to see why they have now apparently turned their attention to signing Veiga, who could cost them a significantly lower fee than the Englishman.

However, given the other Premier League clubs also getting in touch with Mendes about his client, it’s safe to say that City may have to work quickly if they want to be the ones that end up landing the youngster this summer.
