Manchester City reportedly made an approach to Real Madrid over a potential transfer move for Federico Valverde earlier in the summer.

So far in this transfer window, the Manchester club have brought in Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea on a four-year deal worth £30m.

Now, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding another player the Citizens have reportedly had an interest in.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, City, as well as Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, had made enquiries for Valverde earlier in the current transfer window.

The report also adds that Real were quick to dismiss these enquiries as they have no intention of letting the player leave the club this summer.

Having joined the Spanish club’s youth ranks back in 2016, the 24-year-old made his senior debut back in 2018 and has gone on to make 204 appearances for them across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 15 assists along the way.

Described as a “powerful” player by Joe Cole, Valverde featured in all but five of Real’s matches across all competitions last season, highlighting how significant he is for the team.

It also makes it easy to see why the Spanish club have no apparent intention of letting him leave this summer.

With that in mind, it feels that it wouldn’t be worth City trying to change Real’s mind about letting their Uruguayan star leave the Santiago Bernabeu anytime soon.

Moving forward, if the Citizens are looking to add a new midfielder to their ranks before the summer transfer window closes, it’s safe to say that they may have to cross Valverde off their list and look elsewhere.
