Manchester City are reportedly readying a summer transfer move for Josko Gvardiol.

The previous summer transfer period saw the Citizens bring in a new defender from the Bundesliga in the shape of Manuel Akanji, who joined from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £15m.

Now, with the next summer window around the corner, the Manchester club have their eyes on signing another defender currently making a name for himself in Germany.

City ready to make Gvardiol transfer move

According to a recent report from 90 Min, City are “poised to firm up their interest” in the RB Leipzig defender and make a move for him this summer.

The report also adds that Gvardiol “has a clause in his contract worth just shy of £100m that is due to kick in from 2024,” but Leipzig are “ready to take less than the figure to facilitate a move.”

Since joining Leipzig back in the 2021 summer transfer window from Dinamo Zagreb, the 21-year-old has gone on to make 87 appearances for the German club across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists along the way.

Despite being on the receiving end of a 7-0 battering by Pep Guardiola’s side back in March, the Croatian was still tipped by Owen Hargreaves to become “the best centre-back in the world one day.”

The youngster showed glimpses of his talent during the World Cup in Qatar where he ultimately ended up in The Independent’s Team of the Tournament and having this said about him in their article.

They said: “Surely the stand-out young performer of this World Cup. Positional play beyond his years and wild consistency throughout.”

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why the Manchester club are looking to make a move for the defender this summer.
