According to Tuttomercatoweb, Manchester City are interested in signing Atalanta defender Robin Gosens.
It’s claimed that City made contact over a deal for Gosens in January, possibly just to test the water, but no deal was done.
Pep Guardiola allegedly wants Gosens snapped up this summer, viewing him as the answer to City’s left back issues.
Benjamin Mendy looks a shadow of his former self and Oleksandr Zinchenko is more of a depth option than a starting-quality player.
Aymeric Laporte and Joao Cancelo have fill in there, but a natural left-footer would be ideal – and Gosens could fit the bill.
The German had humble beginnings as he failed to make the grade at Vitesse Arnhem, but his impressive displays for Heracles Almelo earned him a 2017 move to Atalanta.
Gosens has predominantly played as a wing back at Atalanta, posting outstanding attacking numbers with 24 goals and 18 assists in 135 games for Atalanta.
Now a Germany international, Gosens has become a star with his technical and athletic ability up the left flank, so it’s no surprise that he is on the radar of a huge team like City.
Guardiola may well remember Gosens having faced him in the Champions League last season, and whilst he turns 27 this summer, he could be a great fit for City’s attacking style.
